Why Gaming?: While staying with close friends in California, I was introduced to board gaming by my friend, Adam. I walked into his game room which was floor to ceiling, shelf upon shelf, bursting at the seams with games. First game in, one turn after being chased by a boulder, Indiana Jones style, and I was instantly hooked! I’ve been spreading the addiction to anyone that will listen ever since. It never gets tiring being in a room with the coolest, most fun and joyful people, not needing silence or distractions to pass the time. Simply going on an adventure together! Saving humanity! Yelling profanities because of a foul roll of the dice, then laughing so hard you knock over the score track and cause a free-for-all point-panic! When I met Kitty and made the life-changing decision to move from Ohio to NYC, I remember Liz crying and saying “How will we play games, I don’t know what I’m going to do without my best friend!” We sat there and cried, assuaging our feelings with cookies and ice cream, and then looked at each other and looked at the computer. We decided then and there that distance wouldn’t ruin anything. We made a list of games to test on Skype, bought some duplicate games so we would each have a copy, and readied ourselves for the next step. Years later, and we still don’t know why we were so worried. We game more now, than we even did when we lived together. The point is that change is scary; but meeting new people, evolving habits, growing and accumulating incredible new relationships and wonderful new experiences is what it’s all about. Whats a few hundred miles when you have unbreakable bonds. Put in the effort. Prove what’s important. People who love each other can make anything work! And I love this crazy family I’ve assembled.
Distance doesn’t have to be daunting!
